School Holiday Workshops

This coming school holidays dance central is happy to announce we will be offering holiday workshops for kids!

The workshops are designed for all skill levels and are great for improving technique, working on foundations and but mostly we’re about having fun!

We will be running the following days for these age groups, we will be announcing the exciting choreographers next week, so keep your eyes peeled :

9^th JULY-10^thJULY: Ages 8-9 y/o 10am-4pm
11^th JULY-12^th JULY: Ages 10-12 y/o 10am-4pm
13^th JULY Ages 8-12 y/o BOYS HIP HOP/BREAKDANCE/BEATS 10am-3pm.

Bookings will be available to be made through the website by end of May…Keep a look out!

Class Changes this week

Ilona will be starting a new Hip Hop-Beginner class on Thursday 5.30-6.30, come check it out!

Dan Hu will be moving his Wednesday Hip Hop-Open class to TUESDAY @ 5.30 – 6.30

Boishakhi Mela- Bengali New Year Party

If you love to celebrate life, culture, art, fashion and food then where else to be than this years Boishakhi Mela this Saturday at Homebush stadium.
The Sydney celebration is the biggest of Bengali new Year in Australia and is one that the whole family will enjoy.
In 2011 Dance Central was asked to perform a cultural dance piece at the festival and the dancers returned absolutely LOVING every part of this celebration of life and will be performing again this year with our amazing teachers Shiva and Gypsy Rose performing a Bellydance piece and also a Tikii jungle performance!

‘Playground’ an exhibition by Simon Hewson

Following on from the success of Shadowed By A Roadside, we are happy to announce that Simon Hewson will be exhibiting as part of this year’s Head On Photo Festival, with a new body of work titled, Playground.

Playground is a series of images from colourful Coney Island, NY, USA.

The air is full of screams, laughter and music, with the smell of hotdogs, fried onions and the occasional whiff of suncream floating by.

Hewson set out to capture the simplest of encounters, focusing on what makes Coney Island so wonderful, the people and its culture. A couple sharing a stolen kiss, a bored snake waiting to have his photo taken, the sun scorching colourfully painted walls and beach goers taking refuge under a water fountain.

Having captured people unguardedly shedding their inhibitions, getting lose and revelling in the gift of a sunny day by the beach, it results in an intimate body of work that celebrates fun, joy and life at Coney Island.

We would love for you to join us on opening night!

Emma Dean- An End to Dreaming

An End To Dreaming is a dark pop fairytale written by myself and Jake Diefenbach. Following a trail of breadcrumbs from darkness into the light, this acoustic show is a collection of 10 musical short stories like tales from a compendium of Brothers Grimm classics. An End To Dreaming features new and old individual songs as well as stripped back Geppetto songs (Geppetto is a brand new yet-to-be-unveiled-project by myself and Jake!) It begins in a world of bleak hopelessness – a dark, urban wilderness, brimming with brooding piano accompaniment and hypnotic vocals. Jake and I play in duelling piano style and build to a dramatic turning point. As the show draws to its finale, the message is clear and simple: to dream, and to dream against even the gravest odds, is to be human.
